A gas explosion in a house located in a block of flats on Hernando de Soto street, in the San Fernando neighborhood of Badajoz, has caused the death of one person, injured 16 and extensive material damage. Four of the people affected have been transferred to the Badajoz University Hospital, although, in principle, “they are not serious.”

The explosion occurred around 3:30 p.m., just when the firefighters were going to force the door of the house after being alerted by a strong smell of gas coming from inside it. As a consequence, there has been a fire that has already been extinguished by firefighters.

At first, there was talk of a dozen injuries, a figure that later rose to 16. Minutes later, the death of one person in the event was confirmed, who would be the occupant of the house where the accident occurred. burst.

The lifeless body of the fatal victim has been found by firefighters carrying out extinction work, as confirmed by the fire chief of the Municipal Fire Extinction Service, Basilio González.

The incident has caused significant damage to the house and the facade of the building but it is still unknown if there was anyone inside at the time of the explosion, according to sources from the Badajoz Fire Department.

Several SES crews, Red Cross ambulances, members of the National Police, Local Police and Badajoz firefighters have traveled to the scene of the accident.

As reported by the Extremadura 112 Emergency and Emergency Center, four of the injured have required hospital transfer although, in principle, they are not serious. Police officers have proceeded to cordon off the area and are investigating the causes of the event.
