The Bishop of Lleida, Salvador Giménez, has turned 75 this Wednesday, May 31, the age at which, according to the code of Canon Law, priests must resign from the bishopric. For this reason, he has sent a letter to Pope Francis where he informed him that he needs to find a substitute for him.
As reported by the bishopric of Lleida, having reached retirement age does not imply an immediate replacement in the diocese, rather the Vatican begins from this moment the process to search for the ideal candidate to be appointed the new bishop of Lleida. .
It so happens that next week, on June 9, it will also celebrate another round anniversary. In this case, the 50 years of his priestly ordination in Valencia.
Salvador Giménez was born on May 31, 1948 in Muro d’Alcoi (Alacant). He entered the Metropolitan Seminary of Valencia in 1960 to pursue ecclesiastical studies. He has a Bachelor of Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca and a degree in Philosophy and Letters with a specialization in History from the Literary University of Valencia.
During his priestly life he has been rector in several parishes and has held different responsibilities in Church educational centers. On May 11, 2005 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Valencia, he was diocesan administrator and later bishop of Menorca, from 2008 to 205, until his appointment as bishop of Lleida on July 28, 2015.
