Fifty hundred residents of the Fòrum de Barcelona, convened by the Stop Concerts platform and the Xarxa Veïnal Contra el Soroll (XAVECS), have demonstrated this Thursday against the noise caused by Primavera Sound, a festival that is held in this venue and that, Between today and Saturday, it will host some 60,000 people each night.

At a rally on Rambla de Prim (Barcelona), the president of Stop Concerts, Enric Navarro, recalled the main demands of the entities, including the Federation of Barcelona Neighborhood Associations (FAVB).

These demands are the transfer of the festivals to other locations in the Barcelona metropolitan area, “far from nearby homes” and, while this does not arrive, the time limitation of the concerts so that they end at 10:00 p.m., at the latest.

In this transition period until the transfer is achieved, they propose to reduce the decibels allowed to 90 and force shops open 24 hours a day and restaurants near the Fòrum to close at 11:00 p.m. and open at 08:00 a.m. hours, something that has already been achieved for the current edition of Primavera Sound.

Navarro recalled the complaints made last year by residents from more remote areas, such as Baix Mareme and Badalona, because they heard the festival’s music as if it were under their house, despite living several kilometers away.

In terms of restoration, the entities are calling for an “urgent” moratorium to stop the awarding of new terraces and review the existing ones with the aim of “returning to the number of tables from before the pandemic.”

The representative of the FAVB, Miquel Prats, explained that, despite “not being against leisure or initiatives that can provide added value” to the city, he rejects “a machine” that goes against “the health of the neighbors and their right to enjoy rest”.

For his part, the president of the Maresme Neighborhood Association, José Manuel López, has assured that the people who live in this area “are supporting Barcelona” because “working people come from here” and he regretted that “don’t let them rest”.

Finally, the concentrated people have made a ‘performance’ to denounce their cause, which has consisted of covering their ears with their hands for a minute.
