A Cercanías train derailed this morning, without causing injuries, at the exit of the Madrid Atocha station, causing delays throughout Sunday and the suspension of traffic between Atocha and Nuevos Ministerios through the Recoletos tunnel, which will continue until late afternoon.

As Renfe sources have indicated to EFE, the incident occurred at 8:45 in the morning, when a bogie (set of wheels) came off the track on a train leaving Atocha for Chamartín.

There have been no injuries among the travelers, according to Renfe, and the Madrid Emergency services have confirmed to EFE that they have not carried out any action.

The passengers were transferred by intercommunication gateways to a train located in parallel, while Adif and Renfe technicians have traveled to the accident site to try to restore circulation.

Adif informs that the lines C-1, C-2, C-7, C-8 and C-10 of the Cercanías de Madrid have been affected by the incident, with average delays of 20 minutes per train throughout the tomorrow, and alternative routes have been established for lines C-10 and C-7.

In addition, circulation between Atocha and Nuevos Ministerios through the Recoletos tunnel has been suspended at 4:30 p.m., and will be restored in principle at 8:00 p.m., a period that the operators will take advantage of to put the Cercanías train back on track.

Travelers planning to travel through this section will be given instructions to use the lines that run through the Sol tunnel.

Renfe is investigating the causes of the accident.
