Agents of the National Police have arrested a man in the town of Benidorm for whom there was a European Arrest Warrant for Extradition issued by the Italian authorities for a drug trafficking crime.
The arrest was carried out by agents from the Benidorm Police Station when the man went to the DNI and Passport issuance offices of the National Police in that town to carry out some procedures regarding his documentation, according to police sources.
When the agents consulted his affiliation in the National Police databases, they verified that he was subject to a European Arrest Warrant for Extradition issued by the Italian authorities for a drug trafficking crime. The acts of which he is accused were committed in 2021 in the Italian town of Varese.
The convicted man allegedly belonged to a gang specialized in committing crimes related to drug trafficking, and was accused of possession and sale of different quantities of narcotic substances such as cocaine, heroin and hashish.
The arrested person, who was on the run from Italian justice, was wanted by the authorities of that country for a drug trafficking crime, for which he was sentenced to a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
He is 25 years old and has Moroccan nationality, and has been placed at the disposal of the Central Investigative Court of the National Court, the body in charge of carrying out the procedures for his subsequent extradition.
