Almost six months have passed since Dani Alves was arrested after being accused of raping a 23-year-old woman at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona on December 30. Months of uncertainty in which the Brazilian international continues trying to prove his innocence, and which have completely destroyed his life at all levels.
In addition to remaining in prison and ruining his professional career, he has also ended his marriage with the Canarian model Joana Sanz, who now, for the first time, gives an interview in which he tells how he has felt during all these months, including how Alves refused to help her financially when she tried to escape media pressure and start a new life in Paris.
The soccer player’s still wife opens up to the journalist Marc Leirado for Vanitatis, where she reveals, among other things, that she continues to believe in her husband’s innocence, despite everything. “There hasn’t been a trial yet, we can’t condemn him,” she insists. Of course, perhaps the Brazilian has not behaved all the best with her, given her circumstances, because although facing the gallery he professes her love for her, it seems that the reality is very different.
The model, who confesses that she found out about the dramatic event and everything that happened to her still-husband later through the media, has been overcome by the situation for months. The woman from Tenerife tells how those first days were a real shock, how she saw that Alves went to prison without any evidence.
“That he has screwed up with our marriage, to the bottom, yes. But I think he would never have done that,” he explains, insisting that the divorce approach – it has not yet started – comes from infidelity.
For the woman from Tenerife, the accusations and crime of the Brazilian international are one thing, and her marital situation is another. “Dani made a mistake”, she insists, they assure that he “has lost everything we had” for it. Currently, their relationship is cordial, after eight years together, and she goes to see him in prison when she has the opportunity. Something that people don’t understand. “I’m going to see him because he was there whenever I needed him,” she explains, clarifying that it’s not because she has feelings for him.
He also reveals that they talk on the phone daily. “It’s the only way I have to know that he’s alive,” she explains, adding that she can’t help but worry about him as she’s going through this delicate process from “a place where something could happen to him.”
Joana Sanz clarifies that a new phase has begun, but continues to speak with her still-husband’s brothers and ex-wife, whom she respects above all else. She insists that nobody kicked her out of the marital home in Barcelona, but she needed to do it to “recover” her life.
A life that he tried to make outside of Spain, but that could not be, after Alves refused to help him with the expenses to be able to carry it out. According to the woman from Tenerife, her refusal could be due to the fact that at that time he could not do it financially, or to her reluctance to leave her life forever, since the Brazilian insists that he continues to love her.
Even so, Sanz acknowledges that this gesture bothered him. “At that moment I needed it,” she confesses, “From then on I didn’t want to talk to him about money anymore, it hurt me enough to ask him for something so that he denied it to me. I told myself that I had to get ahead alone, so I have sought my life as I always do.”
The woman from Tenerife is overwhelmed by this situation. For this reason, she decided to seek professional help to try to manage these “tremendous” moments that have happened to her. “I’m a victim too,” she insists, “I’m having to deal with something I’ve come across, without eating or drinking it.”
The model denounced last month on her networks the persecution she suffers from the paparazzi: “I no longer know what else you want from me. You are overwhelming me, I no longer know what to do, how to react,” the Canarian model lamented a few days ago.
Despite everything, he does not plan to talk about anything related to this situation or accept any of the offers he receives to talk about this whole matter or his romantic relationship. A sincere interview, in which the model assures that she will continue to support the footballer and focus on her work.
