The Regional Council of La Garrotxa has awarded the works for the Riudaura and Oix treatment plants for 1,072,626.17 euros. The entity put the works out to tender in April 2023 and a total of six companies submitted their bids. Two of them, Codony Multiserves SLU and CORPI, Gestió integral de l’aigua SL, have achieved the maximum score and will be in charge of carrying out the works, which must be completed by the end of the year.

Riudaura is currently the largest population center in the region that still does not have a sanitation system to purify the water coming from the urban nucleus. This action, which includes the construction of the upstream collector and the treatment plant, is included in the Program of Measures of the Management Plan for the River Basin District of Catalonia. It is scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2023 to serve a population of 561 inhabitants with a design capacity of 112 m3/day.

The sanitation system is made up of a pre-treatment that allows separating matter and laminating the inlet pipe in order to subsequently receive biological treatment, which will be through a system of biodiscs (rotating biological contactors). Although the construction of a single biodisc unit is planned, where the plant will be built, it is already prepared for a possible future expansion.

In Oix, a wastewater treatment plant will be built, since the collector system was already carried out in an earlier phase by the Montagut and Oix City Council.
