The Madrid Cable Car will remain closed all summer due to a cable failure detected after carrying out an inspection of the system. This has been announced by the acting delegate for the Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, who is confident that it can be opened after the summer season.

As ‘Madridiario’ has advanced, at the beginning of 2023, the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) was carrying out a technical audit, which allowed them to find problems that make it impossible to open in the coming months.

“A failure has been detected in the cable that makes the opening unfeasible due to security conditions,” he pointed out from the Palacio de Cibeles Carabante, who specified that it is necessary to change this wiring.

The integral reform of the Cable Car is one of the proposals of the acting mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. The integral reform “towards a Cable Car of the future” would be considered with which “the offer of restaurants and leisure will be extended in the Casa de Campo area”.

The Cable Car was inaugurated in 1969, and although it has been modernized over time, it requires a “profound rehabilitation in accordance with the most modern devices on the continent.”
