Ara Més, the coalition that brings together the nationalist left-wing parties of Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa, has closed an agreement to join the Yolanda Díaz Platform before the elections on July 23. Waiting for what Podemos decides, there is already a significant agreement between the two formations because the candidacy will be headed by the leader of Més Vicenç Vidal, who has been a senator by autonomous designation in this legislature.

The agreement has been closed outside of Podemos, which has not participated in the negotiations, so its leaders will be left out of the coalition unless there is an unexpected last-minute change of course. The Ara Més coalition is made up of Més, Més per Menorca and Ara Eivissa, parties that usually run alone in the general elections.

Més obtained nearly 40,000 votes in the last regional elections in the Balearic Islands and Podemos did not reach 20,000. That is one of the reasons that have caused Sumar to have opted for Més as a preferred partner. The good relations of the candidate, Vicenç Vidal, have also had an influence, both with Más País and with the commons of Ada Colau.

In fact, Vidal is integrated in the Senate in the Confederal Left Group with Más Madrid and Compromís, among others. The assemblies of the three Balearic parties are expected to ratify the agreement this Thursday. The candidacy will be led by Més, who will have freedom to vote on matters related to the Balearic Islands so as not to contradict proposals that have been presented in the Senate regarding the archipelago. In any case, if a deputy is obtained, he will join Sumar’s group.

Més concurred with Podemos in the 2016 general elections with the ambition of winning a third seat that was ultimately far away. That confluence caused misgivings between both parties since Més felt undervalued by Podemos, which was then at its highest electoral moment, with results even above those of the PSOE in the Balearic Islands.

Some voices from Més have expressed some discomfort at this concurrence with a state-level party, but no surprises are expected in the assemblies this Thursday, in which it is assumed that there will be a majority vote to concur with Sumar.
