The line that separates pride from arrogance tends to be excessively fine, so you can often fall into behaviors that are not beneficial to yourself or your social relationships because of it. Humble people are often recognized as the most appropriate personality trait for someone to possess. However, the truth is that being proud is necessary, but never in excess.
The psychologist Miguel Valenzuela defines pride as a “self-conscious feeling, it gives meaning to the “Iâ€, and it has to do with attributions and evaluations of oneself with respect to othersâ€. This, built in a positive way, is necessary to build self-esteem and confidence, says the specialist. But if it is a negative pride, it can be self-destructive and attract unhappiness, because of becoming arrogance and vanity. So you have to avoid it.
A positive pride is based on a part of humility, which allows people to remain flexible and receptive to learn from what is unknown, explains Valenzuela. Dealing with excessive pride is possible and for this you just have to assimilate and apply certain tips as a starting point.
