Esports star Karel ‘Twisten’ AÅ¡enbrener has passed away at the age of 19. The Czech player, belonging to the Valorant team, took his own life on the night of June 6 after a long fight against a deep depression.
His partner, Harry ‘Gorilla’ Mepham, confirmed the news of his friend’s death through his social networks, mourning the loss of what he considered his brother.
“I woke up this morning to the news that one of my best friends, someone I really felt was my brother, has taken his own life,” Mepham wrote, “Words cannot describe the grief and emptiness I am feeling. right now. I loved him and always will. Rest in peace, brother, we all love you.”
His team also confirmed the sad news last Wednesday, mourning the loss of the young man and thinking of his family, who are going through a particularly hard time.
The young Czech has always been very open with his mental health problems, which he has shared through his social networks to try to make his followers aware of the importance of specialized care and attention. The player admitted to having been dealing with a deep depression for two years, which he has finally been unable to overcome.
“I hurt myself and I was in such a bad situation that I thought about leaving everything, but my father saved me,” he confessed a few months ago, admitting that he had to be admitted to a mental health center to recover. The Czech admitted that it was one of the worst moments in his life as a person and as an eSports athlete, but he was confident that he would recover.
However, he couldn’t. Moments before dying, the player shared one last message via Twitter in which he merely wished his followers “good night”.
The player always wanted to recover, and urged others to do so: “take care, and if you are experiencing something like what I lived, do not panic: ask your friends and family for help.”
