The former vice president of the Government Pablo Iglesias has urged the leader of Sumar and second vice president, Yolanda DÃaz, to rectify the veto of the Minister of Equality and leader of Podemos, Irene Montero, because “she is disappointing too many people” by “hitting like this a crucial figure of the left and of feminism”.
“It is possible that DÃaz is not yet aware of the political mistake he is making (…). He has time to rectify and I know that even people from his own environment who do not sympathize with Podemos at all try to warn him that he is compromising his own objectives politicians by assuming herself as the final executor of a violent campaign orchestrated from the most sinister apparatuses of the media, judicial and political right”, Iglesias stated in an article published in CTXT.
For the former leader of Podemos, it is necessary for the also Minister of Labor “to listen to those who tell her that she is disappointing too many people in exchange for the good treatment that the media continue to give her today.”
In this sense, he has regretted that the “enemies” of Podemos “enjoy” because with the veto DÃaz “gives them an incomparable season finale”, and has stressed that it is a “political error that can compromise the increasingly few options” that the left has to “avoid a PP government and its ultra split”.
Thus, he considers it a “success” that Podemos asks DÃaz for a few days of reflection while not compromising the electoral unit with Sumar to this veto and the positions offered, which he considers a “contempt” for the purple formation.
“No matter how humiliating it is that they impose the exclusion of several of your main political assets (Echenique is another of those banned), no matter how much the positions offered on lists without primaries are also a contempt for what Podemos represents, Ione, Irene and the entire leadership are right to put before our own dignity as a party, the urgency that, at least, there is some possibility that the arrival of the barbarians, who we are waiting for gathered in the forum, is not inevitable”, has pointed out .
Lastly, he has criticized that in Sumar they think that the “key to success is to make it clear that they are a very different left from Podemos”, for which they have to “politically kill Montero”, and has warned that DÃaz “is imposing his vision without contemplations, trusting perhaps in the support of the media”.
“He is wrong to do so. To gain power on the left, it was not necessary to hit a crucial figure of the left and of feminism like that, who has shown something rare in politics and necessary for the left: courage,” Iglesias concluded.
