“If we are gathered here today, it is thanks to you, because if not, my career would not be what it has been and that is due to the loyalty of all my teams and our clients. “It has been a pleasure to share so many years together,” said an excited Alberto Cerdán in his living room in Barcelona this past Friday. The famous stylist is celebrating 50 years in the profession and both Gisela and Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, Juan Peña, Sandra Golpe, Ares Teixidó, Ruth Jiménez and Cuca Escribano, among other well-known names, wanted to support him by attending an event in which the designers Carlos Nieves and Rita Miller offered two shows taking a journey from the 70s to the present day showing the evolution of styles and hairstyles over the years.
Gisela became a mother on March 30 after five years of trying and a pregnancy that gave her some scares but which she knew how to carry with safety and integrity in part also thanks to the support of her partner, José Ángel Ortega.
How would you say Alberto Cerdán is different from other stylists? Why is he special, so many people pay attention to him and even become a character in his own right?
Firstly, because he has been around for many years, I have known him for more than 15, and he has styled Hollywood stars, international athletes and all kinds of top celebrities. And he is very discreet. He has a more than proven, proven career and is very professional. And above all, his human quality. In the end, I consider Alberto a friend, he is a very generous person: he is always willing to lend you a hand, to offer you his salon and himself. Whatever you need.
What have you noticed the most changes in your life after becoming a mother?
Now at the beginning I’m ‘full time’, between takes, not sleeping and half working… (laughs). I had a hectic work activity and of my own free will, obviously, I have stopped it for a while, at least a few weeks to take care of the little one, and this is 24-7!
You have to be a singer like you, naturally, but how beautiful that video you uploaded with you in your arms with your eyes wide open while you sing the song from the Lion King to him.
The truth is that I’m singing everything to put him to sleep, I don’t have any repertoire left (laughs). But yes, the truth is that it is very beautiful; Now that he’s starting to focus his gaze a little, he suddenly hears me sing and he’s stunned and, above all, he stops crying. It’s super pretty, super exciting. I haven’t sung my songs to him yet, huh? I don’t know, because he excites me that when he’s older he can be proud or recognize me on television. It is different to sing them to your own child than to other children.
What is the feeling of saying I have my baby in my arms, I sing to him and he looks at me with his eyes wide open?
It’s super pretty, yes, yes, super nice. It can’t be anything else, it’s very exciting, I’m telling you, I’ve already tried to sing the song from That Star Over There a few times and I couldn’t because I started crying.
Why Indiana, because of the Harrison Ford movie or because of the Hombre G song?
(Laughs) Because of the movie. Well, also because he is a unisex man and at first we didn’t want to know if he was a boy or a girl. We liked the name and since we are big fans of
Indiana Jones, although it sounds very geeky… It seemed original to us, easy to pronounce, it has no translation. Well, a little bit of everything.
Did you dream ten or fifteen or years ago that your life would be as it is today? Devoting yourself to what you like, with your child in your arms…?
What goes, what goes, not at all. On the contrary, I didn’t have much maternal instinct, huh. Well, literally, not at all, not at all. On the contrary, I believed that bringing a child in the end was a bit of a chore for that new being that arrives, because life is very hard and as it is now, even more so: climate change, new wars, the people who lead us … It created a very great burden of conscience, but in the end the maternal instinct emerged, so I will try to educate him as best as possible, prepare him as best as possible. And who knows if he is the new world leader and ends all the wars in the world.
When you return to work, do you already have plans?
Yes, starting in June I will start doing things. It will not be a full-fledged re-entry, with 20 concerts a month as it was before, but more slowly. And in the summer I want to do a small tour for family audiences and he will come with me to all the places. Since I have my dressing room and the concerts last about an hour, because they are for children, with friendly schedules, it is not uncomfortable. I think that with a little help, logically, I will be able to reconcile it.
