“Over the past day, the Ukrainian armed forces have continued unsuccessful attempts at offensive operations in the south-Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Donetsk directions,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said.
In the south of Donetsk, in the Velyka Novosilka area, also known as Vremevsky Corniche and near the administrative border with Zaporizhia, Russian troops “inflicted a defeat” on four Ukrainian brigades, according to the daily war report.
In the Zaporizhia direction, Russia’s Vostok (Eastern) group of forces repelled three enemy attacks and eliminated a column of armored vehicles.
In this Ukrainian region, in the southeast of the country, Russia also claimed to have attacked a command post of the 47th mechanized brigade near the city of Orijiv, key in the Ukrainian counteroffensive because it was north of the occupied cities of Melitopol and Berdyansk, with access to the Azov Sea.
Konashenkov also indicated that a communication center of the 65 mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was destroyed near the town of Kirove (now Tavriiske), further north of Orijiv.
The spokesman said that the losses suffered by Ukraine in the south of Donetsk and Zaporizhia amounted to more than 50 military, 11 tanks, including three Leopards, 17 infantry fighting vehicles, 16 armored vehicles, four vehicles, a Stormer anti-aircraft missile system British and an American M8777 towed howitzer.
In the direction of Donetsk, the lieutenant general reported, the most active hostilities took place in the Márinka and AvdÃivka areas.
The South Russian troop group “successfully repelled eight attacks” in the direction of Novobakhmutivka, Krasnogórivka and Márinka, among others.
According to Konashenkov, up to 310 Ukrainian servicemen, two tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, two armored fighting vehicles, two cars, three pickup trucks, two Msta-B howitzers and one D-30 howitzer were killed during the fighting.
