A 36-year-old Spanish tourist drowned on Sunday when he was swept away by a sea current on the Indonesian island of Bali, local authorities reported Monday. The visitor was swimming with another Spanish traveler at around 4:30 p.m. local time on Sunday (8:30 GMT) on Nunggalan beach, in the extreme south of Bali, when they asked for help, according to the compilation of the event by of the Denpasar Police, capital of the island.

Other people who were on the beach jumped into the water to help them and managed to rescue the woman alive, but they could not revive the man after performing first aid maneuvers for about half an hour, the police statement said.

A team of rescuers went to Nunggalan, a beach that is not very crowded and difficult to access, to evacuate the deceased, the National Agency for Search and Rescue (Basarnas) said in another statement. This body indicates that the survivor is out of danger and did not require hospitalization.
