One will be the next president of the Generalitat Valenciana, the other rushes the latest political battles in his own corner. We do not know, nor can we know today, whether or not Carlos Mazón will be a good president of the Generalitat, but what we do know is that he was a good candidate, and that is where it starts.

Nobody saw Mazón coming, what’s more, to delve into the error, many did not want to do it. He always flew under the radar, partly out of strategy, partly because he came from so low. Nobody valued the fact that he returned to politics as number two on Luis Barcala’s list, a situation viewed with suspicion at that time by the mayor of Alicante and that forced hard internal work and generated not a few frictions. His rivals overlooked the fact that he inherited a destroyed party, with more managers than Las Vegas casinos, and that he rebuilt it without cutting off any head. It was also overlooked that when everything started in his new PPCV project, his political supporters, Pablo Casado and García Egea were, as they would say in the Marine Corps, ‘dishonorably discharged’, which took advantage of more than one outside and also inside, Let’s not forget this aspect, to question his leadership. Nor did the business community make it easy, in profile for a long time, “he is not known” they said, except for Vicente Boluda who in November raised his voice at a public event to express his desire to see the PPCV candidate at the Palau. More than one looked the other way, and more than two… After this journey, as complex as it was silent, the result is well known.

Meanwhile, on the other bank of the river, Ximo Puig hurries his last battles. Like those who were great heavyweights in boxing, Puig is still stuck, although he can only do some direct internal code as he did last Thursday to impose some of his names on the lists for the generals. The curious thing, as well as indecent, is that his corner, on election night, and with the body of the champion still on the canvas, did not even wait for the count of ten to outline a new contender for the title. Before applying ice or administering painkillers, at dawn he was already witnessing a multitude of calls and messages proposing a manager. Now that is flying above the radar, and the rest, nonsense.
