Last week, filming began in Bilbao for the Detective Touré series, one of La 1’s big bets for the coming season, co-produced by RTVE, Detective Touré AIE, Tornasol Media, DeAPlaneta and EITB. The protagonist of the new fiction, which combines intrigue and humor, is Mahamoud Touré, a Guinean immigrant who makes a living as an improvised detective thanks to his cunning and his sense of humor.
Based on the novels of the award-winning writer Jon Arretxe, the new series is created by the winner of the Goya award for the best adapted screenplay in 2021, David Pérez Sañudo ( Ane ), and the screenwriter, with long experience in detective series, such as The Mysteries of Laura, Carlos Vila Sexto.
Filmmakers Esteban Crespo and Violeta Salama are in charge of directing the six episodes of the series, which also has LucÃa Mbomio, a member of Espacio Afro, and Mamadou Ngom, coordinator of the Movimento Panafricanista Bilbao, as advisors for ” contribute their knowledge to the representation of African characters in the series”, according to RTVE.
Malcolm Treviño Sitté ( Lo nunca visto ) is the actor chosen to play this Guinean immigrant settled in Bilbao who earns a living as an atypical bread-and-butter detective. His expertise, intuition and particular sense of humor earn him the trust of the Ertzaintza and immerse him in a complex investigation in which he will face challenges and mysteries of a different nature: he will get to know real estate corruption closely, the thugs of San Francisco’s troubled neighborhood and even run into the Nigerian mafia.
Detective Touré is a procedural series in which the vital and charismatic protagonist will solve a different case in each episode in the most creative and unexpected way possible. The series has a wide cast, in which renowned actors stand out, such as Itziar Ituño, Unax Ugalde, Loreto Mauleón, Jon Olivares and Ane Gabarain, among others.
The fiction will be shot during June, July, August and September in iconic locations in Bilbao, such as the Teatro Arriaga and the San Francisco neighborhood, known for being the most multicultural and diverse corner of the city.
Detective Touré thus becomes the first adaptation of a work by Jon Arretxe for the small screen. He is considered one of the great authors of black novels in Spain and most of his books, originally published in Basque, have become bestsellers in Navarre and Euskadi. He began his literary career in the nineties, and currently combines his work as a writer with that of an opera singer. He is a member of the Bilbao and Pamplona opera choirs.
