When Sumar continues to negotiate his lists with allegations of vetoes and purges, and the PSOE approved his candidacies amid reproaches from some barons and resignations of some candidates, Alberto Núñez Feijóo gathered in the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, at 46 kilometers from Madrid, the 52 heads of the PP list in the elections of July 23. The number one “candidates for change”, said the popular leader, who boasted of unity in the face of what he considers to be happening in the parties that make up the Government.
350 kilometers away, the new president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, announced the agreement with Vox to form a coalition government, save the cliff that Carlos Flores, the leader of the Abascal party condemned for sexist violence, was removed, sending him to Madrid, to favor the agreement. But Feijóo did not comment on it, neither in his public speech nor in private. As soon as he finished his speech to the leaders of the list, he took a car and returned to Madrid.
There was not a single reference, for better or for worse. Feijóo looks ahead, and puts all his deputy candidates to work to make his dream possible, a majority that allows him to tell Vox that they can reach agreements on specific aspects, but not to form a coalition government, which the president of the PP would bring more than one problem to accept.
Abstracted from what was happening in his territories, the president of the PP launched the messages in which he feels most at ease, those of working for a “broad majority”, a “solid majority”, an “indisputable majority”, to make possible the ” culmination of the change” that the “majority of Spaniards desire”.
For this reason, he assured, “I have chosen the best”, without “last-minute designations” and without devoting a single minute to “cobbles, puzzles or trivia to please one or the other”. And he had a spacey comment for those who “have joined from other militancy”, in clear reference to Nacho Martín Blanco, number one for Barcelona, ??who announced his departure from Ciutadans on Thursday.
“Candidacies in which those who are only looking for a seat are bunkered down”, parties “that are out to lose”, and therefore they only have to find a place on the lists, which has given rise, he stressed, “to purges, vetoes , revenges, fights of egos, fierce negotiations and the massive failure of all the parties that make up the Government”.
Feijóo put them to work: “Work harder than anyone else, talk, listen, propose and present the best project for the country”. He asked the candidates to “take to the streets, that we can; that they fill the meetings, that we can”, that they explain the project of the PP, “the best for Spain”, and that they ask for “the trust of the people”, that they talk “with your neighbors” and that they tell them the truth , “because they have been living with lies for five long years”. He invites them to do this because “there is a tired Spain, aware of what is happening, worried about the economic, social and institutional direction” of the country, but “excited to open a new direction”.
