MSCHF has once again set the networks on fire with its latest release. Last February, the American art collective, based in Brooklyn, was responsible for the huge red boots, named Red Boots, which were made of rubber and stood out for their rounded shape and XXL size.
Once again, the brand has not left you indifferent with a controversial launch that has already gone viral and that features a Louis Vuitton bag as its protagonist. MSCHF has created the world’s smallest bag, called the Microscopic, which is the size of, or even smaller than, a grain of salt.
Measuring 657 x 222 x 700 micrometers, this tiny bag is a version of the OnTheGo model from the French house. A design made of photopolymer resin that is not a collaboration with the house, since the artistic collective has not obtained their permission to put the mini accessory on sale.
However, this creation is a piece of art and has a message of protest about how in recent years brands like Jacquemus have opted to put bags on sale that barely fit a mobile phone. “As an object that was previously functional, such as a bag, becomes smaller and smaller, its condition as an object is increasingly abstracted until it becomes a mere brand symbol,” they say from the brand, which adds that, “previous small leather bags have continued to require a hand to carry them, they have become dysfunctional, inconvenient for the wearer.”
Those who want to have this collector’s item will have their chance this June. From 20 to 24 it will be on public display in a sealed gel case, mounted under a microscope, at the 8 Avenue Matignon gallery in Paris, and will later go up for auction at Just Phriends, Pharrell Williams’ auction house.
At the moment its price is unknown but everything indicates that it will be very high due to the expectation it has generated. In networks there are many who have applauded this protest object, but others have also been very critical of the launch, describing it as “ridiculous”.
