Laura Sánchez (Gross-Gerau, Germany, 1982), raised in Huelva since she was a baby, turned 42 on May 29 and a week later in Sanlúcar (Cádiz) received her appointment as Dame of the Order of Solear, created in 1979 by the brothers Toto and Juan Carlos Barbadillo in the homonymous winery. She is full: “I never imagined in my life the number of messages of affection and love that I would receive for my birthday. I said to myself ‘well look, I’m sowing beautiful, I’ll have done something right’. We are all going to die, so you have to enjoy yourself, be aware and make life easy for others”.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of her debut in Adlib and this edition, the 52nd of the oldest catwalk in Spain, is her second time as a presenter. “I have traveled many times around the world and I have never felt so at home as in Ibiza”, explains this wandering Andalusian who feels as comfortable with the vaporous design by Tony Bonet that she is wearing in the image below as with the completely gypsy dress white that she chose for the April Fair: “I wanted to bet on Alicia Suárez, a 23-year-old designer with only two collections, because I believe a lot in new talents; classic designers have to get their act together before what is coming”. Proof of this were the applauded proposals of the Nobel Prize winners from Futur, Adlib’s sister catwalk held the night before.
In addition to the love of her daughter, Naia, and her husband, David Ascanio, the pillars of Laura Sánchez’s life are exercise, nutrition and a healthy mind. Her friend Gloria Morales, creator of the famous Ballet Fit, takes care of the first thing, and she takes care of the rest herself: “I don’t want to appear younger, but rather to be comfortable with my age. And I like to take care of my head more than my body; in fact, my physical training is more for that: it is my time, my moment. Good nutrition is not a diet but eating very well, healthy and avoiding processed foods, and lastly, being aware and enjoying everything a lot”.
Today he is even more aware than ever after being diagnosed with diabetes in 2021. He went public and took charge. “My body has spoken; in general, we must listen to it. Today I have to carry more junk in my suitcase: insulin, pills, sensors, the fridge… And spare parts for everything. Look, today I have two sensors on my arms. I say it’s the router or the start button (laughs) but it measures blood glucose and it’s our life saver. Diabetes makes you your own doctor and you must continually decide: I can eat anything, as long as I supplement it with my insulin dose. But that dose is not always the same. And if I’m going to drive, I might have hypoglycemia. That’s what I mean, you have to make decisions all the time.”
Last Tuesday the 13th he turned 14 years old together with the musician David Ascanio and on June 29, they will be married for five years. “He is an ideal partner, because we have grown together, and we enjoy that stability of the couple. Even though I’ve seen it only five times this month!” Their respective professions force them to travel a lot and long for the reunion. “That is wonderful, but do not think that he is like a teenager (laughs). Sometimes we only have time to eat together because the other takes a flight to I don’t know where”. Laura is the mother of 17-year-old Naia, and of whom she feels extremely proud: “She is a good person, educated and also, I like her very much, it is very important that you like your son. I like my daughter very much and I tell her so. And that is very important”.
