The socialist Lourdes Borrell, candidate with the most votes in the municipal elections on May 28, will recover the mayoralty of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, a position she already held between 2010 and 2011. She will do so thanks to an agreement with Tots Som Sant Feliu, the local Junts brand that brings together this formation with other sensibilities and is led by Jaume Manyoses; and Veïns per Sant Feliu, a local candidacy headed by veteran neighborhood activist Silvestre Gilaberte, who was a municipal technician and councilor for the old ICV between 1991 and 1993.

This Friday a press conference has been called to present the three-party agreement, which means a change of government in the capital of Baix Llobregat, governed for the last four years by Sant Feliu en Comú Podem and ERC, who divided up the mayoralty . Both groups lost councilors on 28-M.

Historically, and also with the exceptions of the socialist Juan Antonio Vázquez and the most recent of the republican Oriol Bossa, Sant Feliu de Llobregat had had mayors from the PSUC and ICV. It has been one of the bastions of this space in the region.

Borrell is happy to be mayor again. “What has been expressed at the polls is that the citizens have not backed the government parties,” she argues, explaining the reasons that lead her not to agree with other left-wing formations. In statements to La Vanguardia, the socialist herself says that she has opted for a pact with “municipalist forces.”

“Lack of cleaning and bulky collection is a disaster,” he says about the changes he intends to promote on public roads. This will be one of his lines of action, but he also comments that he intends to promote affordable housing in the form of rental and sale, endowments for the elderly and social emergencies. In addition, among other issues, he aspires to advance the climate emergency and equality policies.

The great theme of Sant Feliu de Llobregat this mandate will be monitoring the works to bury the train tracks, which are now advancing at the expected pace after being claimed for decades. The urban planning of the city will live a before and after.
