ICe, a Spanish firm specializing in the manufacture and sale of electric bicycles and scooters for the European market, has developed an innovative product that aims to eliminate the potential risks posed by the possible explosion of electric scooter batteries.

This is the ICe Bag fireproof bag, developed and designed to prevent the spread of fire in the event of an explosion in the lithium battery of this type of personal mobility vehicle during the storage, transport or loading phases.

The ICe Bag is made of flame retardant and explosion-resistant materials and has been made with a double closure system, with a high-resistance zipper and velcro. This security solution has, in turn, an internal layer of fire-resistant fiberglass fabric, an intermediate layer of anti-shock foam and an external layer of highly fire-resistant fire-retardant fabric.

The operation of this device is as simple as that the user only has to place the electric scooter inside the bag, either during the recharging phases (thanks to a security window with velcro closure that allows the charging cable to be inserted), or good when you are ready to transport it or simply to store it.

In the unlikely event of a deflagration, the purpose of this bag is to guarantee the safety of people and property located around it by containing fire and toxic gases inside, preventing the spread of fire and smoke, and preserving the safety of the home, workplace, or public or private transportation where the affected VMP could be found.

Current electric scooters pass strict quality and safety controls, but what is not easy is controlling the use that users give to the vehicle as well as the attention they pay to its maintenance or recharging habits. It is especially important that users follow the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding the care of their batteries, avoiding exposing them to extreme temperatures and charging them with the appropriate chargers without exceeding the recommended times or capacities.

Although deflagrations in lithium batteries in electric scooters are highly improbable -in most cases they are caused by improper handling-, not following the recommendations or irresponsible use of them can cause their cells to overheat and, therefore, , security issues.

To prevent these unwanted effects, ICe began developing this product more than a year ago thinking about its suitability for private users who recharge their scooter in a home, business or office, as well as for professionals in shops and repair shops.

This solution is also suitable for storing the scooter safely – regardless of the conditions – in storage rooms or warehouses protected from the elements such as dust or humidity. In addition, since the bag is also fully waterproof, it allows charging on an outdoor patio or balcony when it rains without fear of getting the electrical components wet.

Daniel Oliver Bultó, president of Lobito IC, explained during the product presentation, that “the ICe Bag fireproof fireproof bag offers a 100% safe, pragmatic and economical solution to the problem of possible deflagration of an electric scooter battery”.

As he explains, society understands that there must be a regulation in this regard in the field of public transport, especially after the recent high-profile cases of scooters that have caught fire in the London and Barcelona subways.

“And this is precisely what this bag offers, extra security not only at the time of loading or transport but also to protect the environment at all times. We believe that we have a clear value proposition and we hope that this product has much success, because its potential is high and its market is very broad, since we are the first in the world to develop a bag specially designed for electric scooters”, says Bultó.

For his part, Óscar Creix, CEO of Lobito IC, pointed out that “we have been developing the ICe Bag for electric scooters for more than a year, and after many tests with different materials and under the most demanding conditions we have managed to obtain a product completely safe and easy to use, all at a very reasonable price between 149 and 165 euros RRP, depending on the size”.

The company manager explains that if the manufacturers’ charging advice is followed and no modification is made to the scooter, the chances of it catching fire are very low, since currently the brands follow strict quality controls in the manufacture of scooters and their batteries. But there are cases and circumstances that make this type of accident happen. “With the ICe Bag it is guaranteed that there will be no type of consequence beyond the actual fire of the scooter in the event of a deflagration of the battery”, indicates Creix.
