Majority in votes and central in the political board of Baix Llobregat, the PSC initialed during the last hours different agreements in the region. In some cases, they don’t even need them to govern, since they obtained an absolute majority on 28-M. But in others, the municipal executives shield themselves in this way, trying to have stability in the mandate that starts this Saturday.
With this objective, the socialists mainly reached ententes with the commons. But in some cases they also reached an agreement with Junts hours before the inauguration of the mayors.
An example is Cornellà de Llobregat, where the perennial mayor Antonio Balmón reincorporates Cornellà in Comú Podem to the local executive despite having an absolute majority in plenary. An agreement that is repeated in Viladecans, but here the Socialists do require the commons so that Carles Ruiz continues to govern in a majority.
The same operation is repeated in Sant Just Desvern: Joan Basagañas will be mayor in a coalition government with Sant Just en Comú Podem. Also in Sant Vicenç dels Horts there is a socio-common agreement that will allow the socialist Miguel Comino to continue in the mayor’s office. The same will happen in Molins de Rei, as announced a few days ago.
A few kilometers away, in the Llobregat delta, the tables are turned. And it is that in El Prat de Llobregat it is the common people who need the PSC to govern with an absolute majority. As has happened in the last two decades, both parties agree once more. Lluís Mijoler will be the mayor. In this way, the heir space of ICV and the PSUC preserves its most classic bastion.
But the PSC does not only look to its left to form governments. In Gavà, Gemma Badia incorporates the Junts councilor and will govern with an absolute majority. A similar pact, but with a third partner, will allow the socialist Lourdes Borrell to be mayor of Sant Feliu de Llobregat. In Begues, the PSC will support Junts to reach the mayoralty and the majority.
