The ERC leader in Barcelona, ??Ernest Maragall, has assured that the State “decided” to intervene yesterday in the Catalan capital “applying a de facto 155”. With these words, the Republican wanted to show his indignation at the last-minute pact thanks to which the socialist candidate Jaume Collboni managed to stop the investiture of Xavier Trias and establish himself as the new mayor of the city with the support of PSC, BComú and the PP .

“The independence movement is the excuse, what they do not admit is the difference, the possibility that the city decides for itself, so that yesterday was the triumph of subordination”, he commented in an interview offered to ‘Via lliure’ of RAC 1. The ERC leader in the Catalan capital has explained that since this twist in the script occurred that allowed the PSC to take control of the city, he has not held conversations “of any kind” with either Ada Colau or Jaume Collboni.

In this sense, he commented that he was not surprised by the behavior of the Socialists, since “they had been pressing for days.” “The great novelty is the behavior of the commons, which has to make us all reflect,” he acknowledged, while considering “an ignominy” that they have allowed themselves to “bend” to prevent “a government in accordance with the majority vote of the society”. With this maneuver, he has said, “Ada Colau’s credibility has been reduced to below zero.”

Maragall stressed that the investiture of the socialist candidate was resolved in Madrid: “Sánchez, Feijóo and Yolanda Díaz have made the decision, and Colau has been the docile instrument of this decision.” Likewise, he maintains that the democratic legitimacy of the Collboni government is debatable. Despite this, he does not close the door on reaching agreements with the new Barcelona executive.

Asked if he will follow in the footsteps of Xavier Trias, who yesterday hinted that he would leave the position of councilor when he blurted out that “they dart you all” after not being invested, Maragall has assured that he intends to continue as councilor in the coming years . “I don’t want to give the pleasure of disappearing to those who have dug their claws into our city.”
