The heat is already pressing and a lot. Walking through Gavà you can see scenes of the village atmosphere that still prevails in this city of about 50,000 inhabitants in the Barcelona area, in the Baix Llobregat region.
I have seen a group of older people sheltering from the strong heat under the trees, chatting, petant the xerrada taking advantage of the shade.
I really liked that moment and I have decided to capture it for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia. Especially with the high temperatures that we have, older people and children must be well protected from the strong heat.
From the second half of the 18th century, and with an economy based on agriculture, Gavà experienced demographic and economic growth as a result of the drying up of the delta lands to convert them into farmland.
The city that it has become has not lost its village essence. The population center of Gavà was slowly consolidated around the parish of Sant Pere.
And the street structure of the town has largely survived as it became a city. There have been testimonies of that time such as Can Lluc, the current headquarters of the Museum, the Casa Gran or the Rectory.
And, in the mountain area of ??the municipal term, there was a dispersed population in farmhouses, many of which are still preserved.
