The popular Fonts del Llobregat are now at their best after the last torrential spring rains. As can be seen in this report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, it really is a spectacle worth seeing and even more so right now.
The water that goes down through the cracks and cavities of the calcareous rocks (karstic aquifer) meets the clayey layer, much more impermeable, and comes to the surface. The flow of the source is around 4 m3 per second.
The sources where the river is born spring directly from the cliffs that border Castellar de n’Hug, and form an abundant and rapid waterfall.
Specifically, it is located in the “Red Pleta”, at 1,295 meters of altitude, within the municipality of Castellar de n’Hug, in the Berguedà region. The Fonts del Llobregat are located approximately half a kilometer west of the town.
The excursion to visit the sources of the Llobregat is a classic, especially among families. It is about upwellings of groundwater in paleozoic calcareous rocks that are found at the source of this river.
