The legendary Robert De Niro, 79, has confessed that his six oldest children have not yet met his new sister, Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro. The girl, born in April to De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, therefore, has not yet met her six older brothers and sisters, but she does know the couple’s friends.
De Niro opened up to People magazine during a screening of his film A Bronx Tale at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, just before Father’s Day. When asked if his older children knew his baby sister, the double Oscar winner only said: “Not yet, but they will.”
The actor also revealed his plans for Father’s Day, stating that he would be spending the day with his children. His words implied that he was looking forward to a full family reunion that would serve as the introduction of his youngest daughter to his siblings.
The De Niro clan consists of Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46, De Niro’s children by his first wife Diahnne Abbott; twins Julian and Aaron, 27, with actress and model Toukie Smith; and Eric, 24, and Helen Grace, 11, with Grace Hightower. With Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, the legendary actor is a father for the seventh time.
In May, De Niro introduced the world to little Gia during an episode of CBS Mornings. There he shared a photograph of the girl in which he revealed her full name and her birth weight: 2.5 kilos. Despite the age difference between De Niro and her newborn, he seems eager to experience a new fatherhood.
The actor told TODAY earlier this month that his age would not be an impediment to raising his daughter, and that it would also provide him with knowledge that he did not have while raising his other six children. “I feel very good, yes,” he said at the time.
