The occasion could not have been more propitious. This noon, taking advantage of the lunch that the Kings have offered at the Royal Palace to Abdallah and Rania of Jordan, Felipe VI has recalled his commitment to serve Spain on the nine-year anniversary of his proclamation as King which took place on June 19, 2014 .

“Throughout these nine years”, the King said, “I have carried out my responsibilities with a sense of duty and institutional respect; with loyalty to the citizens —honoring my commitments to the Spanish people— and to constitutional values ??and principles; always willing to serve Spain, of which the Crown is a symbol of its unity and permanence.”

Before the President of the Government, ministers and representatives of the highest State institutions, invited to lunch with the King and Queen of Jordan, the King recalled that June 19 in which “I also shared my convictions, my feelings and my will, which I maintain with the same solidity and illusion of that first day. And which will continue to guide me towards the future, because its meaning and significance have not changed with the passage of time, but are reinforced, guiding my actions as Constitutional King”

Referring to the relations between Spain and Jordan, the King stressed that both countries are united by “a very close friendship, and a reciprocal, deep and sincere understanding. On both sides of the Mediterranean our countries have mutually seen their desire for coexistence reflected democracy, of progress and modernity, and of active contribution to regional and global peace”. In his words, Felipe VI recalled the Madrid Peace Conference, in 1991, and the launch of the Barcelona Process, in 1995, to highlight Spain’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.

The King has once again referred to the “unjust aggression of Russia against Ukraine” and with regard to Palestine, he has highlighted “the constant efforts that Jordan”, and especially King Abdallah, following in the footsteps of his father, King Hussein, ” to contribute to a just and lasting solution”. Felipe VI also thanked his Jordanian counterpart for hosting Syrian refuges and his leadership in advancing in resolving the Syrian crisis.

In his words, King Abdullah, who congratulated Felipe VI on his nine years on the throne, recalled that Spain and Jordan are partners “in the search for peace and regional and global prosperity, working together to counteract the impact of the climate change on food and energy security.

Before the meeting with Felipe VI, the King of Jordan met in Moncloa with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who was also attended by Prince Hashem, 18, the youngest of the four children of Abdalah and Rania, who has also been at the meeting that his father has held with Felipe VI and at the subsequent lunch.

The Aqaba Process, an initiative of the King of Jordan, develops a series of international meetings that seek to strengthen military and security cooperation, coordination and the exchange of experience between regional and international partners to combat terrorism. Organized with a regional focus for each round, the meetings encourage expert discussions on security challenges.
