The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a man on Tuesday for trying to kill his ex-partner with an ax on the Pont de Suert (Lleida) last Saturday. According to the Segre newspaper, the emergency services transferred the woman to the Arnau Hospital in Vilanova de Lleida in serious condition.
The victim suffered serious injuries to his arm when he was trying to protect himself from the repeated attack with the tool, which went to his head, the newspaper from Lleida indicates. The 53-year-old man assaulted the victim in the presence of their daughter, about six years old.
The Catalan police frame the investigation in an alleged case of gender violence with attempted homicide. After going to court, the judge decided on Monday prison without bail after the request of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The events occurred around seven in the evening at the Pont de Suert, when the man went to the building where his ex-partner resides and attacked her with an ax. The investigators suspect that it was a premeditated assault, since the attacker was waiting armed for the woman outside her home.
The man, with psychiatric problems, had left on a weekend leave from the Santa Maria de Lleida university hospital, according to the newspaper Segre. The man accused of murder was arrested by the Mossos in the same building shortly after. Apparently, there is no history of gender violence.
