With banners all over the city and a festive spirit, Valencia will host tonight the ceremony of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, a list that annually designates the best restaurants in the world and that up to now is led by the Danish Geranium.
At 8:30 p.m. this afternoon, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will announce the new leaders of world haute cuisine at the Palau de Les Arts in a ceremony that can be followed live. This year is full of emotion, since two Spanish restaurants opt (more than ever) for the title after being in the Top 5 last year: Disfrutar, by Oriol Castro, Mateu Casañas and Eduard Xatruch in Barcelona, ??number 3 in the current ranking ; and Diverxo, by Dabiz Muñoz in Madrid, number 4.
Let’s remember that since 50 Best created the special ‘Best of the Best’ classification in 2019, restaurants that have been number 1 cannot be number 1 again, so Geranium (winner in the last edition) is ruled out. Everything indicates that it could be the Peruvian Central (number 2 in 2022) who will lead the new list, proclaiming Latin America for the first time as the winning continent, although the game could also be divided between the two Spanish establishments or the Mexican Pujol (number 5 in 2022). There is also the possibility that other restaurants suddenly break into the top of the ranking, as happened years ago with Noma.
Waiting to find out which of them will lead world haute cuisine for a year, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has already begun to warm up with a program of activities such as the 50 Best Talks in which speakers such as Rasmus Kofoed and Søren Ledet participated yesterday , Geranium’s chef and sommelier, who did a show cooking to explain their menu; Jordi Roca and Ale Rivas, who presented Rocambolesc’s ‘Best of the Best Ice Cream’ ice cream; the Colombian sommelier Laura Hernández Espinosa or the Californian cook Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen, who spoke about how she offers a professional opportunity to disadvantaged women through cooking and hospitality in Morocco with her project Amal de ella.
One of the most applauded performances was that of Ángel León, who brought a lot of fresh fish to the room where the 50 Best Talks were held to defend the sustainability that has marked the line of his restaurants since its inception.
Last night, the traditional chefs’ party was also held, which this year was hosted by Club Alcatí, located in a privileged place in the Albufera, where all the chefs on the list met and where traditional rice dishes from the Valencian Community were served. .
The ’50 Best Signature Sessions’ have also been held these days, dinners open to the general public in which four such exclusive hands have been experienced, such as that of the Valencian chef Begoña Rodrigo together with the Frenchman Alain Ducasse or that of Ricard Camarena, also from Valencia. with Riccardo Camanini, chef of the Italian Lido 84.
