For all those who have not yet decided where to take refuge this hot summer, the solution may be in this tiny town surrounded by large forests and postcard corners.
La Febró, with its barely 40 inhabitants (the smallest population in the Baix Camp region, in Tarragona) has a natural environment of great beauty throughout its 16 km², as Mar Rovira Batlle, who shares this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
This locality, refuge for many vacationers every year, is located between Prades, Capafonts, Vilaplana and d’Arbolí and Cornudella de Montsant (already in the Priorat region).
Febró is the only town in the Baix Camp crossed by the Siurana river basin and the only one that, belonging to the Geographical Priory, administers the Baix Camp for market reasons.
It is known that the area has witnessed civilization since Neolithic times and the Bronze Age, since boat-shaped tombs and other archaeological remains were found.
Its history is varied from the first records in 1163 within the Llibre Blanc de Santes Creus and its subsequent incorporation into Prades county, to being the scene of maquis activity during the 1940s.
Currently, the town lives from agriculture, specifically, from vineyards, olive trees, almond trees and the exceptional hazelnut trees. Recently, there is also a commitment to the cultivation of truffles, from the inoculation of the fungus in holm oaks.
In addition, a herd of sheep and goats flock to the fields of La Febró depending on the time of year and the grazing needs.
Beyond its few streets and houses, and the parish church of Sant Esteve, patron saint of the town, an exceptional natural space opens up.
Among the possibilities offered by its landscapes, which are part of the biogeographic set of the Prades mountains, the incredible gorgs and avencs stand out.
These highly visited places are accessible from excursion routes from the same town. The gorgs, pools and waterfalls of a tributary river of the Siurana, serve as a summer refuge for a refreshing bath.
The fastest way to access them is from the road from Vilaplana to La Febró, at km 25 and following the red and white markings.
For their part, the avencs are open cracks in the rocks formed by the erosion of water in the limestone rock. One of the three main ones is the one that can be visited and it is very deep and has a multitude of caves inside, where speleological exploration can be practiced. These chasms can be reached by taking the narrow path that leads to the road from the La Mussara refuge.
