‘Tell me how it happened’ continues to be a milestone in fiction in Spain. After 22 long seasons, to which will be added a twenty-third and last, the Spanish Television series has established itself as one of the most remembered names on the small screen. Raising the names of Imanol Arias and Ana Duato, it will remain immortalized by fans for a long time. However, one of its interpreters is not going through the best of moments.

In an interview with the newspaper ‘La Razón’, Ana Duato has openly criticized the problems she is experiencing right now with the Spanish Tax Agency. The actress who gives life to Merche Fernández has been involved in legal proceedings with the Treasury for seven years, for which she faces a 32-year prison sentence for alleged fraud. Anti-Corruption closely follows the “Nummaria Case”, but Duato does not agree with some of the decisions made.

“I cannot understand how someone like me, who has always paid his taxes and who does not owe a penny to the Treasury, has been in this situation for so many years,” he told the newspaper. She also denounced that she had to attend the oral hearing of the trial without anyone having called her to testify for four of the seven crimes that the Prosecutor’s Office charges her, in relation to the fiscal years between 2014 and 2017. According to the accusation, she would not have included in his taxation 41 episodes of ‘Cuéntame’.

“Of course I feel helpless. If they don’t call me to testify, they don’t give me the opportunity to defend myself,” Duato explained. The account of his words points to his last statement, on June 15, 2016 before the National Court. There she was consulted for allegedly having paid her income through Corporate Tax instead of personal income tax in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012. It was then that she was charged with four more crimes of which she was never asked .

Seven years have passed since the beginning of this process, and the actress is already exhausted by the slowness and bizarre nature of this situation. “Both professionally and family-wise, we continue to have a very bad time,” she explained. Even so, he continues to trust that everything will be resolved without problems: “My father taught me the importance of respect for Justice and, despite everything I’ve been through, I try to teach it to my children so that we have a healthier society ”.

In addition to Duato, his partner Imanol Arias is also involved in the same judicial process. For him, 27 years in prison are requested for similar irregularities. The actor from Riaño defended his innocence after the Merche interpreter had a fine of 500,000 euros annulled for the alleged error when processing taxes. “I have paid the fines that I have paid and I am sure that I have already done what I had to do,” he declared.
