June 30 is approaching, the last day to file the 2022 income statement. It is time for late filers, those who wait until the final hours of the campaign to file the statement.
After several months of margin, why everything at the last minute? “Many believe that by delivering it later, the Treasury will discount the amounts later,” says Ana Crespo, Taxfix Spain tax expert, about those who go out to pay. A basic error: 60% of the amount to be paid will be collected on June 30 from all taxpayers and the remaining 40% can be paid in installments on November 6.
Crespo warns that making the personal income tax declaration late and in a hurry increases the risk of making mistakes, such as not being able to verify the data correctly, forgetting some deductions or making a mistake in taxation. For example, in the case of those who have gone to live in another autonomous community and have forgotten to change their address, it may happen that they are charged as if they continued living in the same one.
“Those who make the declaration at the beginning of the campaign are usually more cautious people or who have some special activity to declare,” he says. They go with more time to have more margin.
According to Crespo, errors in income tax returns are common and many of them come from the administration, which is why he recommends that taxpayers be advised by experts to review their return so that they are not overcharged or overcharged. return less than the corresponding amount. In addition, he says that most of the people who contact Taxfix don’t know many of the deductions they can take.
One of the groups with the most difficulties are young people, who do not know how to do it correctly. Something for which he blames the Treasury for not making it easier for this to change due to the language he uses and for having key information on his page that is difficult to access. “The Treasury has a very complex language that people do not understand and does not make it easy to understand it,” says Crespo.
Should I file the declaration or not? Although there is no obligation, he recommends “both young people and anyone else to prepare it in case something comes out to be returned by the Treasury.” He explains that the deductions that are most worthwhile for young people are the rent, especially in Madrid, which is where it is highest; that of studies in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands; and tax relief for those who have two or more payers in Catalonia.
Until June 1, 13.8 million taxpayers had submitted their income, with 10.11 million with results to be returned. In addition, 77.2% of those who had requested a refund had already received the refund and 68.8% of the requested amounts had been paid.
