The PP expands its offensive against the PSOE as a result of the Koldo case, in which the National Court is investigating an alleged corrupt plot that was enriched by charging commissions for the purchase and sale of medical supplies during the pandemic, to the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, whom he accuses of having stopped the judicial investigations to favor the candidacy of Pedró Sánchez in the last general elections.

The PP spokesperson in Congress, Miguel Tellado, appeared at a press conference this Tuesday to analyze current political events and, among other matters, directly pointed out García Ortiz as responsible for an “extremely serious” action, such as that of having put, in his opinion, the “electoral interests” of Pedro Sánchez over his professional performance, which must lead the attorney general first to give explanations and then to resign, he has defended.

This accusation responds to what was published in the digital The Objective, in which it is noted that the anti-corruption prosecutor, Luis Pastor, presented a first draft of a complaint about the Koldo case on June 28, 2023, a month before the elections, held on July 23, and that the attorney general decided to stop the processing by delaying the deadlines for the visa necessary for the next step: its submission to the National Court.

In any case, the police operation, in charge of which was the central operational unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, was under summary secrecy until the arrests of the alleged members of the plot were made, which is why, according to sources courts consulted, “it would not have mattered whether the complaint was filed sooner or later; it would not have come to light.”

At the strictly parliamentary level, Tellado has regretted that Congress is not functioning at “full capacity” as a result of the electoral calls, which have plunged the Government into “laziness” after the “rush” to process the Amnesty law, and has announced that the PP has asked the Board that the sessions that are not held be recovered later, something that has been opposed by the majority made up of PSOE and Sumar in the governing body of the Chamber.

In any case, the PP, its parliamentary spokesperson has explained, is going to present a bill with which it seeks to “portray” the Government in relation to the financial autonomy proposal launched by the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, which attack, as Tellado has said, against the “strength” of the State and the “territorial design” established by the Constitution.

This proposal, the spokesperson detailed, will consist of five points that can be voted on separately: the withdrawal of the Amnesty law, compliance with the opinion of the European institutions on the linguistic model of Catalonia, respect for judicial actions related to the processes, the explanation of the scope of the Government’s negotiations with the pro-independence forces and the aforementioned rejection of the model of fiscal and financial autonomy “required by the pro-independence forces.”

In this sense, the opposition considers that the reconciliation that the socialists talk about to argue their political strategy in Catalonia contrasts with the statements of independence leaders such as Carles Puigdemont and Oriol Junqueras in recent days, when they have referred to the will not to renounce independence and “complete the process” started in 2017 or return to prison “if necessary.”

And regarding the “polarization” and “crispation” that the President of the Government attributes to the PP, Tellado has replied that Sánchez’s “theatrical laments” respond to a “hypocritical” attitude on the part of someone who is “allergic to truth”, since he “survives” politically thanks to the “wall” that he himself sees necessary to build against the parties that do not accompany him in the defense of their “own political interests”, which are, as the spokesperson has proclaimed, to the detriment of the general interest.
