A woman died this Wednesday and a man was seriously injured due to a fire that broke out in an apartment in the Firal de Balaguer neighborhood (Lleida), in the upper part of the city. The victim has lost his life after falling through a window of the burning home.
Seven units of the Generalitat Fire Brigade have traveled to the area. The fire has also forced the preventive eviction of about fifteen residents between those of the block and those of the two adjacent buildings, located on Monteró street in the city of Lleida. The causes that would have originated the fire are unknown at the moment, although it is ruled out that it is a criminal act.
According to the Fire Department, the victim is a woman who lived in the apartment where the fire started, and although she initially survived the fall, she died from the serious injuries she suffered, without the personnel from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) could have saved his life.
In addition, a man has been seriously injured with second-degree burns on his back and, after being rescued with a ladder, has been transferred to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital in Lleida. The firefighters and the SEM have also treated a 19-year-old young man, who has been discharged on site.
The fire started shortly after seven in the morning in a house on the third floor of this property, and has affected several rooms at the back of it. Since 07:35 hours, seven vehicles from the Generalitat Fire Brigade have worked to extinguish the accident, and the fire was extinguished at 08:11 hours.
The firefighters have proceeded to ventilate the area and have confirmed that there was no person left inside the building. Likewise, as a preventive measure, the gas service has been cut off throughout the block of flats and, in parallel, the structure of the building is being checked for any structural damage.
In addition to the seven fire brigades, five Mossos d’Esquadra patrols, five SEM ambulances and psychological teams from the town council have worked at the scene of the accident.
