The Hospital Comarcal Sant Jaume de Calella (Maresme), managed by the Corporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva, has incorporated state-of-the-art magnetic resonance (MR) equipment, the third equipment installed in Catalonia with these innovative technical characteristics . Until now, the center did not have any MRI equipment, which represents a very important qualitative leap technologically.

The new MRI, the Signa Voyager Air Edition 1.5T model, incorporates artificial intelligence tools, which improve diagnostic accuracy and obtain high-quality images. Its incorporation means a great step forward because it will improve the diagnostic and resolution capacity of the center and also the accessibility of the population.

Until now, patients who required this test had to go to the Hospital Comarcal de la Selva in Blanes, also managed by the Corporation, since it was the center where the MRI equipment was available. Now, with the incorporation to the Calella Hospital, more tests can be carried out, which will reduce waiting times for patients, as well as offer them a higher quality and closer service.

The head of the Corporation’s Diagnostic Imaging service, Dr. Ann Vallès, maintains that “the new magnetic resonance with which we have equipped the center uses innovative technology that allows obtaining higher quality and more precise images more quickly , all this improves the experience of the patients”.

The cost of the new magnetic resonance has been 891,680 euros, an amount financed entirely with European funds through the Investment Plan in High Technology Equipment (Plan INVEAT) of the Ministry of Health. It has also been necessary to carry out work to adapt spaces to incorporate MRI into the Diagnostic Imaging service, part of this work has been subsidized by CatSalut. The total investment, including the resonance equipment and the reform, is more than 1.3 million euros.

Dr. Ann Vallès also appreciates “the effort of the professionals both from the Diagnostic Imaging service and from other departments of the Corporation who have been involved in this process and who have made the incorporation of this team possible”. The Magnetic Resonance of the Calella Hospital has been put into operation at the beginning of this month of June.
