The city of Barcelona already has a San Juan firecracker booth where only medium and low noise products are sold. It is a ‘low noise’ establishment that the company La Traca has located in Plaza Molina. It markets pyrotechnic elements specially designed for groups with hearing sensitivity such as children, the elderly or even animals.
As explained by the CEO of the company, Jordi Brau, the objective of the measure is to promote more “inclusive” and “sustainable” pyrotechnics, responsible with the demands of today’s society and with an increasingly familiar model of festivals and where children’s products have gained prominence.
Jordi Brau explained that the origin of La Traca’s line of low-noise firecrackers lies in the initiative that the company undertook five years ago when it decided to categorize its products into low, medium and high noise. “We consider everything below 97 decibels to be low, which is the normal volume of a conversation,” commented the CEO of the company, who explained that since then pyrotechnic elements have been developed in accordance with these classifications. .
Right now, he has also pointed out that the profile of the festival has also changed in recent years and has said that it has evolved towards a more family and children’s party. “A long time ago there were hooligans who damaged the wastebaskets with firecrackers and today that happens less, it is a family party where the elements of color and aimed at children have gained a lot of weight”, he assured. “Sometimes society shows us the way,” considered Brau, who said that the sector has to listen to the demands.
In this sense, it has ensured that adapting its products to the needs of people with hearing sensitivity and animals is one of the company’s objectives. “It is not about San Juan firecrackers, but about fireworks in general,” Brau assured, saying that the noise made by these elements often bothers or scares animals, the elderly or children. “What we do is review them and change this surprise effect that can cause discomfort,” she said.
In the case of the establishment in Plaza Molina, buyers will only find medium and low sound firecrackers. Brau has indicated that last year the company already carried out a pilot test in Terrassa installing a booth with similar characteristics and has pointed out that this year it has decided to extend the initiative in Barcelona.
In addition, the company has also produced brochures with information aimed at pet owners to help them enjoy these days of high presence of fireworks in public spaces to the best of their ability.
Apart from the ‘low noise’ booth in Plaza Molina in Barcelona, ??he explained that 55% of the products in the La Traca catalog are classified as low-noise elements. In addition, he recalled that for years the company has also been working to make more sustainable products, curb the carbon dioxide footprint and eliminate plastics from packaging.
In this sense, 50% of the items in the La Traca catalog do not contain plastic and 60% use recycled cardboard. In the same way, he has ensured that the will to create products that are increasingly respectful of people and the environment is a shared objective for the sector. “Ten years ago the thunderbolts that were sold were fifteen grams and now we offer them in two”, he comments.
The Catalan company faces this festival of San Juan with an exponential growth of its activity. On the one hand, in this campaign it will open up to 180 temporary booths and so far this year it has already opened nine points of sale. With these new openings, it achieves the milestone of 50 establishments throughout Spain that the company itself has set for 2025.
