Coca i Fitó is an innovative, dynamic winery that creates unique wines formed by brothers Toni and Miquel Coca i Fitó. A project born in September 2006, when these two brothers, who at that time had a small vineyard in the Denomination of Origin Montsant, decided to start making what would be their first wine, “Coca i Fitó Negre”.
Since that distant 2006, when the first seed of this project was planted, it has been given complexity. The events and the illusion of sharing new experiences have led the winery to currently produce a wide variety of wines and in different Denominations of Origin.
The winery is located in the DO Montsant, in the municipality of El Masroig, where the main activity and the creation of most of the wines take place. However, Coca i Fitó currently shares projects in other production areas such as Priorat, Empordà and Ribeira Sacra.
Precisely in the DO Empordà the Coca i Fitó brothers, together with Santi Roig and Mariona Parals, created Tocat de l’Ala, a winery located in Mollet de Peralada and which was born with the objective of producing unique and quality wines and the will of express the surroundings of the territory through a drink of wine.
Garnachas, old Cariñenas and a bit of Syrah are the stars, along with flint and slate floors. Wines from integrated and sustainable cultivation, where freshness, fruit and minerality fill our palates to surprise us.
Tocat de l’Ala, an easy red to enjoy
A good example of the collaboration between Coca and Fitó and Roig Parals is Tocat de l’Ala tinto 2018, a wine made with grapes selected from old vineyards (55% Cariñena, 25% Garnacha Negra, 10% Syrah) from different municipalities from the Alt Empordà.
Traditional production with a small aging in oak that helps to round off and integrate the grapes from different estates. Harvest of well-ripe grapes to achieve a fine, sweet and rounded palate. A wine that stands out for its fruit and freshness and easy to enjoy.
In the bottle it is perceived as a cherry color. Its aromas of blueberries and raspberry with hints of thyme stand out. On the palate it is powerful, fresh and with mineral touches. The fruits of the forest and the red fruit are confirmed. As well as balsamic touches, cocoa and fennel. Soft, round and pleasant tannins.
Ideal with cuttlefish, white and red meats, game, spicy dishes, cheeses, rice dishes and warm salads. Also with duck with pears, cannelloni, fricandó, Catalan-style spinach.
As a curiosity, the image that you see on the bottle is the work of illustrators Oriol Malet and Jaume Coca, who have sought with their illustration to convey the essence of wine and describe the sensations it brings.
Now you can enjoy Tocat de l’Ala red wine 2018 thanks to the 10th Anniversary Selection of the Club de Vinos de Gourmet La Vanguardia, where it is accompanied by six great wines that have been part of the selections in these 10 years: LaQuarta de Sant Josep Vins from Terra Alta, Abadal 5 Merlot from Pla de Bages, Loidana from Marco Abella del Priorat, Braó de Acústic Celler del Montsant and Durona de Montrubí del Penedès.
