The Gipuzkoan Unai Zubeldia will make the leap to the professional peloton next season with Euskatel-Euskadi after running the last two seasons with Laboral Kutxa, the Euskadi Foundation’s subsidiary training team.

The Basque squad confirmed that Zubeldia (Ibarra/Gipuzkoa, 2003) will sign for two years, 2024 and 2025, just like his teammate Iker Mintegi did two weeks ago.

This season the Gipuzkoan has won the Klasika Santikutz de Legazpi, of the Spanish Cup, as well as the Estella and Berriatua races and the Gipuzkoa and Euskadi championships.

Trained at Oriako de Tolosa, Zubeldia wore the best youngster’s white jersey last season during the Giro d’Italia under-23 in his first year in the category.

“I define myself as a complete and versatile cyclist. I am a good roller who defends himself in the mountains and with power for arrivals. I don’t want to set any goals for the next two seasons either. I want to go step by step, adapt and help” , explains the broker in statements broadcast by Euskaltel.

For his part, Jorge Azanza, sports manager of Euskaltel-Euskadi, points out that Zubeldia is a cyclist who “had been aiming since he was a youth, who is taking important steps and who has had the ability to win.”

“Perhaps he is not the profile of a Basque climbing runner. He is powerful, he can make the difference on broken terrain and also in arrivals. We believe that he can be an important runner in the near future. A good teammate, very humble and hardworking” highlights Azanza.
