While participating in the negotiations on the pacts in the Diputación de Barcelona and even playing in several contests to preside over the provincial body, the mayor of Sant Boi de Llobregat, Lluïsa Moret, has closed a pact of municipal government by adding En Comú Podem to the executive .
The PSC did not need the commons to govern, since on March 28 it increased its absolute majority. But their compromise with this political space in this town in Baix Llobregat dates back a long time and will repeat itself: they have governed together since 1999, although sometimes with different acronyms from the current ones and even accompanied, as when Jaume Bosch in 2007 also incorporated to CiU and ERC to the government.
Decades have passed since then. “The agreement will give continuity to the government action that both formations have historically shared,” the City Council said this Friday in a statement. “The two formations will join forces in a stable alliance to continue transforming the city with progressive and left-wing policies,” he added.
Between the two parties there are 18 of a total of 25 councilors in the municipal plenary session of the town of 83,371 inhabitants according to Idescat. ERC leads the opposition with three councilors, while the PP and Vox have two each.
Pacts between socialists and commoners are common in the Baix Llobregat region. Hours before the constitution of the consistories last Saturday, a few were initialed and some others previously.
In any case, in addition to Sant Boi, cities such as Cornellà de Llobregat, Viladecans, Sant Just Desvern, Molins de Rei, Sant Vicenç dels Horts and El Prat de Llobregat will have socio-communal governments, although in the locality of the airport the communities are the most powerful voted and retain the mayor’s office once more.
