About a hundred people attending a Louis Tomlinson concert at the iconic Red Rocks amphitheater near Denver, Colorado, have been injured after being hit by a powerful hail storm, firefighters have reported.
At least seven people have been taken to various hospitals with serious injuries, while another 90 were treated at the scene. Among the injured, there were cuts and bone fractures. In addition, many cars have suffered major damage as a result of being hit by ice stones.
A witness to the meteorological phenomenon has assured that the hail balls were the size of an apple. “Hail began to fall on people and my sister and I luckily found shelter under a sign. I am bleeding and I have huge blows to the head from the hail. I hope everyone has come out safe and sound,” a witness explained to CNN .
For her part, another attendee named Nicole described the evening as “the most terrifying night of her life.” The young woman thanked some strangers who helped her find shelter. “They literally saved our lives, if not a serious concussion,” she has indicated in statements to the local newspaper The Gazette.
The National Weather Service office had issued a severe storm watch at around 9:04 p.m., warning of winds of up to 50 mph and golf ball-sized hail.
At first, the concert was delayed and the organization advised attendees to “seek refuge in their vehicle.” Later, he said that he had received the “go-ahead” and urged concertgoers to return to the amphitheater, to end up announcing an hour later that people were to return to seek shelter until further notice.
After the tremendous storm, Louis Tomlinson was forced to cancel his performance. The former One Direction member apologized to his fans via Twitter: “Devastated by tonight’s show hope everyone is doing well, I’ll be back!”
The company that manages the Red Rocks Amphitheater has also issued a statement to apologize for what happened.
