The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a total of 91 people and the Generalitat Fire Department has received 934 notices, the majority for urban fires, this Friday night during the festival of Sant Joan in Catalonia.
Of the 91 arrests, 35 are related to crimes against property; 11 with crimes of injuries; 15 for gender-based violence or in the home environment and 30 for other events, reports the Ministry of the Interior in a statement.
The Mossos has carried out 42 alcohol and drug controls on roads throughout the country: of the 1,201 breathalyzer readings carried out, 112 have been positive, 14 of which have been criminal, and 16 drivers have been penalized for driving under the effects of narcotic substances.
Of the 934 calls to the Fire Department, recorded between 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, the counties with the highest concentration of services were Baix Llobregat (155); the Western Vallès (132); Barcelona (109); Maresme (40) and Alt Empordà (38).
The most outstanding service of the Firefighters has been in Gimenells i el Pla de la Font (Lleida), where a man died accidentally after falling into a bonfire and not being able to get out: they received the notice at 10:12 p.m. Servei d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), who could not do anything to save his life.
On the other hand, the bulk of the services attended by the Fire Brigade correspond to vegetation fires, with a total of 289 starting at 8:00 p.m., followed by fires in waste containers and in homes, with 267 and 28, respectively.
The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has counted 278,344 vehicles that left the Barcelona area between 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday in an operation that ended without any fatal accidents.
The 278,344 vehicles that have left the Barcelona area until 9:00 a.m. represent 60.5% of the 460,000 vehicles that Trànsit expects to leave until 3:00 p.m.
The busiest time for vehicles to depart was Friday at 4:00 p.m., when an output of 42,000 vehicles per hour was registered, above the 37,000 vehicles per hour in 2022, and the roads most affected by the retentions were the AP- 7, the C-32, the C-33, the C-16, the C-17, the C-14 and the A-2.
At 6:00 p.m., 41 incidents between accidents and breakdowns had been recorded: the most notable accident occurred on the C-32 north, in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona), where a motorcyclist was seriously injured. 844
Agents Rurals has carried out a total of 844 related actions within the device activated between Tuesday and Friday, 516 of which were inspections of bonfires and 222 related to the launching of firecrackers and pyrotechnic material.
A total of 477 people have received assistance in hospitals and Primary Care Emergency Centers (CUAP) in Catalonia, the majority for burns, injuries, amputations and eye damage caused by bonfires and firecrackers.
Regarding the type of injuries, 167 burns have been registered -154 minor and 13 serious–; 45 traumatisms or amputations, and 64 eye injuries, and of the total attended, 170 are minors: 105 minors under 11 years of age and 65 minors between 11 and 17 years of age.
The 061 Salut Respon telephone number received 2,956 calls between 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 7:00 a.m. on Saturday for 2,361 different incidents, 7% of them for issues related to festivals, with a total of 177 people attended.
These 177 people treated represent 1% less than the previous year, and 128 of them were treated for poisoning; 12 for assaults; 23 due to traffic accidents and 14 due to burns.
The 112 emergency telephone number has received a total of 7,324 calls linked to 4,383 incidents related to vervain, 30.23% more than the 5,624 calls it received in 2022, linked to 2,933 incidents.
