How many sculptures of pilgrims are there in Burgos? This photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia will answer this question. Do you want to know the answer?

Since 2021, the Camino de Santiago, as it passes through the city of Burgos, has a large number of silhouettes of pilgrims that improve the signage of the route from Capiscol and Villafría to the Pilar neighborhood.

We have collected here a small sample of the works, each more imaginative, and which are really worth seeing throughout their urban journey.

It is an initiative of the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral Foundation, with the collaboration of Cajaviva Caja Rural, on the occasion of the Jacobean Year of 2021.

The sculptures, made of lacquered iron, two meters high and one meter wide, were created by Cristino Díez, and were decorated by artists from Burgos and from the Burgos School of Art and Superior Design.

On this surface, 30 local artists and a dozen students from the Burgos School of Art and Design have captured the vision of the pilgrimage along the first European cultural itinerary.

This has resulted in very varied pictorial styles, various plastic techniques, even with structural alterations to the original model, with Jacobean motifs and numerous references to the Cathedral of Burgos, without skimping on allusions to nature, with a predominance of figurative art.

To this set of 39 works is added the silhouette that can be seen in front of the Pilgrim Reception Center, bringing the total number of sculptures to 40.
