Singer Lewis Capaldi has announced that he will be taking a break from touring “in the near future”, arguing that he is “still learning to adjust to the shock” of his Tourette syndrome.
The decision comes after the star ran into trouble during his Glastonbury Festival performance over the weekend, with fans in the crowd chanting for him as he stopped onstage during his hit song Someone You Loved.
According to a message posted on social media, Capaldi said his performance on the Pyramid Stage had made it “obvious” that he needs to “spend a lot more time” getting his “mental and physical health” in order to continue doing everything he loves “for a long time”.
The 26-year-old singer had previously canceled three weeks of shows to rest and recover before the festival. Onstage, he repeatedly apologized for losing his voice and told fans that he probably wouldn’t be seeing much of him “for the rest of the year.”
In a statement shared on Tuesday, he thanked Glastonbury for inviting him and the public for standing by him. “The fact that this probably doesn’t come as a surprise probably doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to inform you that I’m taking a break from touring,” she said.
“I used to be able to enjoy every second of programs like this and hope that 3 weeks away will fix the problem. But the truth is that I am still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette syndrome and it became clear on Saturday that I need to spend a lot more time on put my mental and physical health in order, so that I can continue doing everything I love for a long time”.
