Carmen Sevilla passed away this Tuesday at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, at the age of 92 and after a long illness. Since then, faces from the world of television and culture, in addition to the many viewers, have wanted to send their condolences to the family of the actress and presenter. And they have done it in the form of a reminder by publishing some of the best moments of the Seville woman on television.
So much so that one of the most viral has been the reunion that occurred between Carmen Sevilla and Charlton Heston in the missing and mythical Surprise, Surprise. Such was the emotion of both when they saw each other 27 years after having filmed Marco Antonio and Cleopatra, that they melted into a warm hug and an affectionate kiss on the cheek.
It was the year 1999 and Carmen Sevilla, at 68, went to Surprise, Surprise, presented by Concha Velasco on Antena 3, to experience one of the most important reunions of her life. After 27 years since the filming of Marco Antonio and Cleopatra, the Seville once again faced one of her most international co-stars, Charlton Heston.
Everything came together in a spectacular way: a legion of Romans from the Via Crucis of Balmaseda went to the set of Surprise, Surprise. They did it to the beat of drums and trumpets, as in the time of César, and escorting the American interpreter who made an appearance on a horse-drawn chariot, as happened during the 1972 film.
The ovation from the public was spectacular and Carmen Sevilla, who couldn’t believe what was happening, threw her hands over her head with great emotion. In fact, when Heston got off the chariot and approached her co-star, she began to cry as she hugged and kissed him affectionately.
After catching a bit of air, already seated and with their hands clasped, Carmen wanted to thank the program for the magnitude of the surprise, something that she had never imagined at 68 years of age. Here, Heston used humor to make it clear that, at that age, the same as the Spanish woman, “I still keep fit.”
