La Laguna will host this coming Sunday, July 2, the “bike festival” with an eight-kilometre route through the center of the city, an event aimed at lovers of two wheels that is included in the celebrations of San Benito Abad.
The city council has indicated in a statement that two elm trees will be planted in memory of the activist for sustainable mobility Hugo de Armas and David Hernández Carlos, a neighbor who recently died in a traffic accident, at the equator of the route, located to the height of the Pedro González park, popularly known as “la Vega”.
The route, whose registration is free, will depart on Sunday at ten in the morning from Alberto de Armas avenue and will head towards La Vega park, to return to the point of origin after traveling through the main streets of the municipality and, especially, from the neighborhood of San Benito.
The president of the Autonomous Sports Organization (OAD), Badel Albelo, has pointed out that this day “will fill the center of our World Heritage city with health and sustainability” and “comes to visualize and claim the use of the bicycle as the healthier method of transport, and healthy and sustainable forms of mobility”.
