The Mossos have dismantled a gang in the Girona demarcation that was dedicated to committing violent robberies in homes with a firearm. The investigation began on December 21, 2022 after an assault on a home in Palau-saverdera (Alt Empordà) in which the thieves intimidated and tied up the owners of the property.
The police inquiries culminated in a device on June 20, which included six entries and searches in Girona, Empuriabrava, Llorà and Figueres. In addition, there were also the arrests of four men and two women between the ages of 26 and 36, for a crime of robbery with violence and intimidation in an inhabited house, one against public health, for electricity fraud and for belonging to a criminal group.
According to the Mossos, the case began on December 21, 2022 when agents of the Criminal Investigation Area of ??Girona learned that there had been a robbery with violence and intimidation with the exhibition of a firearm at a home in the town of Palau-Saverdera (Alt Empordà) when the owners were inside.
According to the police, early in the morning a man dressed completely in black violently approached one of the inhabitants of the house with a firearm as he was leaving his home. The thief identified himself as an alleged police officer and pushed him with great force into the house. He then immobilized him with some ropes, together with his wife, inside a room. Once tied up and locked up, the thief facilitated entry and access to the house for the rest of the assailants. The authors took a significant amount of cash that the victims had in a safe.
After opening an investigation and verifying the existence and participation of this criminal group in said robbery, in addition to its connection to other crimes against public health, on the early morning of June 20 in the Criminal Investigation Area of ??Girona carried out a large device police.
The Special Intervention Group, the Air Resources Unit, the Canine Unit, the Girona Regional Area of ??Operational Resources, the Central Command Room and agents from the Girona, Roses and Figueres Citizen Security Unit intervened in this operation.
Six entries and searches were carried out simultaneously at homes in Girona, Empuriabrava, Llorà, and Figueres, as well as one entry at an establishment in the latter town. The investigators arrested all the members of the investigated group and confiscated 61,600 euros, six mobile phones, two portable transceivers, a BB gun, an extendable defense, a defense spray, a wool cap, a wig, as well as two boxes of 22 caliber ammunition and ten 6.35 caliber cartridges.
At the home of Llorà, the Mossos located the vehicle with which the perpetrators had committed the violent robbery. Inside they found a firearm compatible with the one used by the thieves during the December 2022 assault.
In the properties of Empuriabrava and Girona, also related to this criminal group, two marijuana plantations were discovered in which 647 marijuana plants and cuttings and 5.3 kilos of marijuana buds ready for distribution were intervened.
On June 23, the detainees, some of them with criminal records, were handed over to the Figueres court hearing the case.
