A festive demonstration is going through the streets of Nàquera this afternoon, the only Valencian town with a Vox mayor, the same one who had given the order to remove any flag of the LGTBI collective in municipal buildings. The LGTBI associations Mirall Camp de Túria and Lambda had called a Pride demonstration with the motto “Nàquera Orgullosa” after the veto of the new consistory and after the pact signed with the PP to reach the mayoralty of the consistory.
The pact contemplates up to 20 measures, among which -complying with the ideas of those of Abascal- “replace the concentrations of ‘No to macho violence’ with ‘No to violence’ or ‘We condemn all violence'”. It is common that after learning of a sexist murder, protest rallies are held in all institutions to denounce this scourge.
It is not the only controversial point that is included in the pact reached that allowed the investiture of Exposito. Point 15 proposes, in order to “promote constitutional values” and comply with the law on flags, “not to place LGTBI flags on balconies and facades of municipal facilities”, a widespread practice to commemorate days of protest for this group like today. .
As the march passed, which began at the town’s Tourist Office and is scheduled to end at the Town Hall, the protesters applauded the few LGTBI flags displayed on the balconies. Shouts of “Nàquera Orgullosa” are heard, the motto that has summoned them today.
Participating in the march is the Minister of Science Diana Morant, head of the list for the PSPV-PSOE to Congress in the next elections on 23-J, who has criticized that “the PP and Vox pacts have managed to cause a social setback in 20 days 20 years”. Also participating are the councilors of Compromís in the Valencia City Council Sergi Campillo and Lucía Beamud and Alberto Ibáñez, from Iniciativa PV and number two of Compromís-Add to the Congress for Valencia.
Fran Fernández, Lambda’s general coordinator, explained that last Friday people from the town of Nàquera called them asking for help, which is why they agreed to participate in the call as did other groups such as Dracs or Samaruc. “It is very unfair that Nàquera is known internationally for the LGTBphobia of its mayor. The people of Nàquera are open, respectful and inclusive people and they do not deserve that a mayor with the excuse of the Flag Law wants to put us back in the closet. And they will missing cabinets”.
