The Castell de Vilagelans has two stories that go together, perhaps for this reason it also has two silhouettes when it is reflected in the Gurri River, as can be seen in this report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
Vilagelans castle, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, has been documented since the year 1012. This is its first history.
But, in reality, on top of the old castle, a house with a square floor plan was built in the 16th century, with the chapel of Santa Fe next to it, with a Romanesque floor plan, although highly transformed. In 1920, an annex body with a central tower was also built.
For its part, the Gurri is a tributary of the Ter river. It originates on the northwestern slope of Matagalls, in Montseny, and runs north. It collects water from the terminals of Seva, Taradell, Santa Eugènia de Berga, Malla, Calldetenes, Vic and Roda de Ter.
Along the course of the river you can see other heritage elements, apart from the castle. This is the case of the Bruguer medieval bridge, which began to be built in 1348.
The name of the bridge refers to the nearby Mas Bruguer. Its construction finished in 1434, when it was inaugurated. The first town it passes through is Gurri, which gives it its name, after the Gurri Xic farmhouse, in Taradell.
