Mayor Jaume Collboni’s government will approve its municipal budget proposal on May 2. As was entirely expected, the PSC municipal government has just lost in the extraordinary plenary session held this Wednesday the vote on the question of confidence raised by the socialist executive itself in the previous ordinary plenary session, last week.

The opposition tried to take advantage of the third to highlight the loneliness of Collboni and his people, to try to show that this whole process only reveals the government’s failure to forge consensus and majorities, which everyone hoped would be for the good of Barcelona will try to strengthen the municipal government.

This morning the socialists only found the support of the ERC councilors. Opposition groups now have 30 days to present an alternative candidacy for mayor. If they are unable to reach a consensus, in fact most likely – among them they have also been getting along quite badly for some time now – the municipal government’s budget proposal will be automatically approved.

In reality the positions have been the same for a few weeks now. Junts and BComú did not succeed in ensuring that the conversations surrounding the accounts of Barcelona City Council helped them force their entry into the government, so that Mayor Collboni agreed to share the executive with one or the other, and they understand that Mayor Collboni did not It does nothing but make them dizzy with conversations that never lead anywhere.

Despite this, the mayor made it clear this morning that now that his accounts are on track he is willing to continue talking with the opposition about his possible entry into the government. The one most likely to achieve this is the ERC, given that they have already agreed on these budgets, but at this time the issue is by no means closed. Collboni always said that his first objective was to carry out his accounts, and that then they would see what they did with the government.

The tone of the debate in this extraordinary plenary session was friendly, at least a little more than usual lately, but it was not free of tension. On this occasion, Mayor Collboni let the Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, Laia Bonet, clash with the spokespersons for the rest of the groups. Most of the opposition spokespersons tried to emphasize the mayor’s loneliness, that he did not win the last elections, that his hands were tied by the interests of Pedro Sánchez and Salvador Illa, that they trusted that he would try set up a government with a much broader base that would guarantee its autonomy…

Xavier Trias highlighted that at this time Collboni even has the support of the councilors who facilitated his investiture, and Ada Colau that the mayor, who could opt for the left or the right, did not know how to agree with either one or the other. . Trias and Colau agreed that everything that is happening is a personal failure of Collboni himself.

But once again Collboni remained faithful to his thirteen and his roadmap. Despite the fierce criticism from Trias and Colau, the mayor once again expressed his willingness to continue talking about the governability of Barcelona. The problem is that now everyone gets along much worse than a month ago. Relationships, also on a personal level, are more strained than ever.
